About the position

The Community Outreach Worker (Snap-Ed) at the University of Illinois Extension is responsible for promoting healthy behaviors and providing nutrition education to community members, particularly those in need. This full-time position involves leading classes, developing relationships with local organizations, and collaborating with team members to achieve SNAP-Ed goals. The role requires significant community engagement and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Lead classes and provide information on basic nutrition, physical activity, and food access to community members.
  • Spend significant time in the community teaching programs for youth and adults as outlined for SNAP-Ed.
  • Gather and shop for required materials, prep food, and lead cooking and physical activities at community sites.
  • Develop relationships and provide nutrition education materials and resources to community members and organizations.
  • Refer SNAP-Ed clients to local agencies based on additional needs.
  • Promote SNAP-Ed and Extension opportunities in identified communities.
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and monitor unit and SNAP-Ed goals.
  • Identify potential community partners that serve low-income families.
  • Participate in committees and teams to provide feedback for the SNAP-Ed program.
  • Collect information from program participants for reports.
  • Complete required monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Participate in required trainings and team meetings.
  • Perform other duties that contribute to the mission of University of Illinois Extension programming.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in work related to the job.
  • Ability to take and pass the Certified Food Protection Manager course within the first year of employment.
