About the position
The Community Outreach Worker (Snap-Ed) at the University of Illinois Extension is responsible for promoting healthy behaviors and providing nutrition education to community members, particularly those in need. This full-time position involves leading classes, developing relationships with local organizations, and collaborating with team members to achieve SNAP-Ed goals. The role requires significant community engagement and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Lead classes and provide information on basic nutrition, physical activity, and food access to community members.
- Spend significant time in the community teaching programs for youth and adults as outlined for SNAP-Ed.
- Gather and shop for required materials, prep food, and lead cooking and physical activities at community sites.
- Develop relationships and provide nutrition education materials and resources to community members and organizations.
- Refer SNAP-Ed clients to local agencies based on additional needs.
- Promote SNAP-Ed and Extension opportunities in identified communities.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and monitor unit and SNAP-Ed goals.
- Identify potential community partners that serve low-income families.
- Participate in committees and teams to provide feedback for the SNAP-Ed program.
- Collect information from program participants for reports.
- Complete required monthly and quarterly reports.
- Participate in required trainings and team meetings.
- Perform other duties that contribute to the mission of University of Illinois Extension programming.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in work related to the job.
- Ability to take and pass the Certified Food Protection Manager course within the first year of employment.
