About the position

The Community Philanthropy Manager at Initiative Foundation is a pivotal role designed to develop and direct the Community Philanthropy program. This position is responsible for providing technical assistance and liaison support to all Partner Fund advisors and advisory groups, while also supporting the Community Philanthropy and Development teams in promoting generosity across the region. The manager will encourage staff engagement and best practices by endorsing organizational initiatives such as wellbeing, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and promoting the staff alliance. A strong commitment to the vision, mission, and values of the Foundation is essential as the team works together to serve the communities of central Minnesota. In this role, the manager will oversee both external and internal program operations. Externally, the manager will serve as the lead staff member providing technical assistance to assigned Partner Funds, including individual donor-advisors and advisory teams. This includes creating and conducting orientations for new advisory teams and ensuring compliance with required forms. Internally, the manager will supervise the Program Specialist, Nonprofit Development Officer, and TRCF Administrative Assistant, coordinating internal systems and procedures for the Community Philanthropy program. The manager will also be responsible for managing legal contracts and consulting with finance and legal advisors to ensure program compliance. The position also involves reviewing and leading component fund grantmaking, annual scholarships, and other special project fund payouts. The manager will collaborate with the Development Team to identify opportunities for fund prospects and assist in planning and executing strategies to cultivate and secure new partner funds. Overall, this role is integral to the success of the Community Philanthropy program and requires a strong knowledge of community foundations, nonprofit development, and local philanthropy.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead staff and provide technical assistance to assigned Partner Funds, including individual donor-advisors and advisory teams.
  • Create and conduct orientation for new advisory teams and newly elected advisory team members.
  • Provide capacity-building training and support for local advisory teams as needed and ensure compliance with annually required forms.
  • Promote the program and work with the Communications Team to maintain collateral media including fundraising and marketing platforms.
  • Ensure a high level of service provided to donors, advisors, advisory team members, and representatives of Agency and other funds, as well as community partners.
  • Provide supervision and work direction to the Program Specialist, Nonprofit Development Officer, and TRCF Administrative Assistant.
  • Coordinate internal systems and procedures for the Community Philanthropy program.
  • Partner with staff to develop and maintain scheduling of financial reports and monitor the effectiveness of reporting tools.
  • Maintain and distribute Partner Fund guide and supporting resources.
  • Work across teams to ensure growth, overall quality, and effectiveness of the program.
  • Approve expenses related to Partner Fund activity, monitor financial/manager reports, and help develop budget projections for the program.
  • Participate in reviewing/updating policies and other documents that directly impact the Community Philanthropy program.
  • Lead the formation of newly assigned partner funds and manage legal contracts related to the Community Philanthropy program.
  • Consult with finance team and legal advisors to ensure program compliance and develop complex gifts.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor or members of the Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in community or nonprofit development, education, or related field.
  • Three years' experience in community foundations, nonprofit development, or local philanthropy, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of community foundations, nonprofit development, and local philanthropy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, providing program and training coordination, and grant making.
  • Ability to work with a variety of computer programs and applications.
  • Knowledge of legal standards, compliance, and liabilities relating to events is helpful.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance coverage, or access to reliable transportation.
