About the position

The Community Planning Manager position at the City of Gaithersburg involves providing leadership and advanced planning expertise to support the city's community planning strategies and initiatives. The role requires managing complex planning tasks, supervising staff, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of planning projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in land use planning and development, with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and sustainable community.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, manage, and participate in community planning programs and activities.
• Provide interpretation, information, and technical guidance on City codes, policies, zoning, and development regulations.
• Supervise community planning staff.
• Participate in the development and implementation of Planning Division goals and objectives.
• Monitor and evaluate service delivery methods and recommend changes as necessary.
• Coordinate the site plan review process and keep stakeholders informed of project status.
• Facilitate meetings of the City's Development Review Team and act as liaison to outside agencies.
• Serve as liaison to the Planning Commission and attend relevant meetings.
• Attend Historic District Commission and Board of Appeals meetings as needed, providing assistance and guidance.
• Evaluate the need for ordinance changes and coordinate updates to the Master Plan.

Requirements

• 4-8 years of experience in community or neighborhood development planning.
• AICP certification is required.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary land use planning and development practices.
• Experience in managing complex planning projects and working with multiple agencies.
