About the position

Northeastern University's Office of City and Community Engagement (CCE) is seeking a Community Relations and Programs Manager to enhance community engagement and program delivery in the Fenway, Roxbury, Mission Hill, and South End neighborhoods. This role is pivotal in fostering relationships and implementing programs that align with the university's community engagement strategies. The Community Relations and Programs Manager will report directly to the Director of Outreach and Programming and will collaborate closely with various stakeholders within the university and the surrounding communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for attending neighborhood association meetings, public safety meetings, and community resident gatherings to gather insights and relay information back to the Director of Outreach and Programming and the AVP of City & Community Affairs. This position will also involve the development and implementation of programs, particularly at Northeastern Crossing, a key community-focused space. The manager will oversee the usage of this space, including bookings and community communication regarding available resources. Additionally, they will supervise a team of student workers who will assist in managing events at Northeastern Crossing. The role requires a commitment to documenting successful processes and identifying areas for improvement in program execution. The Community Relations and Programs Manager will analyze data and metrics related to program progress, ensuring that the initiatives have a measurable impact on the community. This position is primarily in-person on the Boston campus, with a schedule that may vary based on program needs, including availability on weeknights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the Fenway, Roxbury, Mission Hill, and South End neighborhoods.
  • Attend neighborhood association meetings, public safety meetings, and community resident events to gather insights and relay information to leadership.
  • Oversee the booking and use of Northeastern Crossing, ensuring it serves community-focused initiatives effectively.
  • Develop and implement programs primarily at Northeastern Crossing.
  • Supervise a team of student workers who provide coverage for events at Northeastern Crossing.
  • Collaborate with other CCE members on division- and campus-wide priorities related to community engagement.
  • Participate in CCE-wide committees, office-wide training, retreats, and special events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Two to four years of experience with community-based organizations, program planning, and/or institutional community engagement.
  • Exceptional written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of professionalism and sensitivity to political dynamics.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proven record of strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work.
