About the position

The Community & Residential Support Specialist is responsible for providing rehabilitative residential and community support services for adults with severe mental illness or dual diagnoses. The role involves teaching independent, social, and daily living skills tailored to the participants' learning styles, monitoring their symptoms and medication use, and providing therapeutic interventions to facilitate self-management and skill building. The specialist also engages in crisis management and documentation of services according to program protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rehabilitative residential and community support services for adults with severe mental illness or dual diagnoses.
  • Teach independent, social, and daily living skills based on participants' learning styles, strengths, and needs.
  • Monitor participants' symptoms and medication utilization regularly.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions that facilitate illness self-management and skill building.
  • Identify natural supports and utilize community resources for participants.
  • Provide crisis management services in consultation with the program supervisor.
  • Document all services using program protocols.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED (Preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Demonstrated skills in the field of services to adults or children.
  • Ability to work within the provider's structure and accept supervision.
  • Ability to work constructively with clients, treatment resources, and the community.
  • Possess a personal vehicle, Illinois current driver license and insurance, and a good driving record acceptable to the agency insurance carrier.
  • Carry a cellular phone at all times to respond to participant/program needs.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends, evenings, and holidays during emergencies.
