About the position

The Community Resource Area Development Agent for Fine Arts at Kentucky State University is a vital role that connects community needs with university resources. This position focuses on developing, conducting, and delivering educational programs tailored to the specific needs of the Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties in Northern Kentucky. The Fine Arts Extension Agent will prioritize the needs of underserved and minority audiences, aiming to foster a vibrant arts culture that enhances the quality of life for children and families in the community. The agent will design and deliver various arts workshops, classes, and events, collaborating with community partners to bolster arts initiatives. In this role, the Extension Agent is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive educational programs and training in the fine arts. These programs are intended to strengthen existing arts initiatives and create new opportunities for engagement, particularly among socially disadvantaged and limited-resource families. The Fine Arts Extension Agent will oversee non-formal educational programs in areas such as music, poetry, performing arts, and painting. Working closely with the Community Resource Development Program Leader and other Fine Arts professionals, the agent will contribute to the overall programmatic efforts of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension System, which includes collaboration with both Kentucky State University and the University of Kentucky. The Extension Agent will ensure that all clientele have equal opportunities to participate in programs, regardless of race, gender, age, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin. This commitment to inclusivity is a cornerstone of the role, as the agent will work to engage diverse audiences and facilitate community involvement in programming. The position requires a proactive approach to outreach, program evaluation, and collaboration with local artists and organizations to secure funding and manage resources effectively for program sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Work with and/or develop advisory committees to facilitate community involvement in programming.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs through virtual and face-to-face methods in all aspects of fine arts.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and prepare reports for stakeholders and funders.
  • Review the needs within the Extension assigned area and support local programs with resource information.
  • Develop materials to promote arts education and conduct outreach activities.
  • Provide volunteer training and conduct programs that reach underserved and diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal and external Extension partners to support arts programs.
  • Maintain records, clientele sign-in sheets, and submit reports as required by the Kentucky Extension Reporting System.
  • Collaborate with local community members, partner organizations, and Extension faculty to develop and implement educational programming.
  • Utilize a variety of educational strategies to implement programming, including informal classes, presentations, media, and group facilitation.
  • Collect evidence of program impact to market, report results, and improve the program.
  • Build relationships with local artists and organizations.
  • Secure funding through grants and sponsorships and manage budgets for program sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline related to Family & Consumer Science, including Family Development, Human Nutrition, Consumer Economics, or a closely related field.
  • Master's degree in child development, family and consumer sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in a related field strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating participatory Extension or non-formal education programs.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent team building and conflict resolution skills.
  • Understanding and ability to conduct community needs assessments to determine program priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of educational technologies and their appropriate use in program development and delivery.
  • Program marketing skills and the ability to involve and manage participants in delivery.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and various software applications, with expert use of Microsoft applications necessary: Vista, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to utilize social media platforms for programming efforts and develop media resources for programming.
  • Knowledge of research and educational capabilities of USDA and the Land Grant system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and establish effective working relationships.
