About the position

The City of Beaverton is seeking a Community Services and Homelessness Support Specialist to provide essential administrative, communication, and budgeting support to the Community Services and Homelessness Program. This role is dedicated to advocating for underserved members of the community, particularly low-income populations and individuals experiencing homelessness. The specialist will collaborate with various city departments and community partners to ensure effective program delivery and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for programs addressing the needs of low-income residents in Beaverton, including scheduling and preparing materials.
  • Handle budget and finance tasks such as processing accounts payable and receivable, tracking budgets, and managing contract files.
  • Assist with managing contracts for social services grants and other partners, including preparing contracts and tracking spending.
  • Coordinate logistics for core programs and support communications through drafting articles and updating program websites.
  • Organize internal and external meetings on homelessness topics, preparing agendas and taking notes.
  • Coordinate special projects and events, such as donation drives and training sessions for nonprofit partners.
  • Manage program databases and contact lists, and respond to inquiries from the public.
  • Assist with translation and interpretation needs as available.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; and 3 years of general office experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Office 365.
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and knowledge of social services in Washington County.
  • Basic bookkeeping or accounting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and manage upset customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public service or community advocacy.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial management in a nonprofit or government context.
