About the position

The City of Beaverton is seeking a Community Services and Homelessness Support Specialist to provide essential administrative, communication, and budgeting support to the Community Services and Homelessness Program. This role is dedicated to advocating for underserved populations, particularly those experiencing homelessness, and involves collaboration with various city departments and community partners. The specialist will manage logistics for meetings, track budget information, coordinate special projects, and respond to inquiries from both coworkers and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for programs addressing the needs of low-income residents in Beaverton, including scheduling and preparing materials.
  • Handle budget and finance tasks such as processing accounts payable and receivable, tracking budgets, and managing contract files.
  • Assist in managing contracts for social services grants, including preparing contracts and tracking spending.
  • Coordinate logistics and facility needs for core programs, such as Safe Parking.
  • Support communications by drafting articles, posting on social media, and updating program websites.
  • Organize internal and external meetings on homelessness topics, preparing agendas and taking notes.
  • Coordinate special projects and events, such as donation drives and training sessions.
  • Manage program databases and contact lists, creating spreadsheets to track data.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide referrals to community resources, handling interactions with upset customers.
  • Assist with translation and interpretation needs as available.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; and 3 years of general office experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Office 365.
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness.
  • Attention to detail and basic bookkeeping or accounting skills.
  • Knowledge of social services in Washington County.
  • Ability to deescalate tense interactions with unhappy customers.
  • Sensitivity in communication around politically charged issues.
  • Desire to work with diverse populations.
