About the position

The Community Support Specialist position at Start Corporation offers a unique opportunity to work directly with individuals and families to address their mental health and housing concerns. This role is integral to promoting self-sufficiency and empowering clients to live independently. The specialist will engage in case management and supportive services, which include social skills training, life skills development, job search assistance, and resource utilization. The position emphasizes recovery, personal choice, and respect for clients, ensuring that they receive the necessary support to achieve their goals. In this role, the Community Support Specialist will be responsible for maintaining professional and ethical standards while providing comprehensive case management services. This includes conducting assessments, developing case plans, and documenting all client interactions and services provided. The specialist will also be expected to maintain a clear driving record to transport clients as needed and actively participate in staff meetings to discuss case progress and strategies. The position requires a commitment to promoting recovery and independence among clients, assisting them in identifying their strengths and needs, and developing realistic service plans. The specialist will also play a crucial role in landlord recruitment and retention, seeking new housing opportunities for clients. This position is full-time, with an expected workload of 40 hours per week, and offers a supportive environment for professional growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains professional and ethical standards of conduct at all times.
  • Promotes recovery, personal choice, and respect.
  • Provides case management and supportive services for clients.
  • Participates in setting case plan goals/objectives and completes case plans with clients.
  • Interviews clients and/or families and completes assessments and other clinical documentation.
  • Completes case logs and required documentation on all client services.
  • Performs regular case maintenance activities including documenting actions and preparing necessary reports.
  • Effectively utilizes community resources by providing appropriate referrals and linkages.
  • Maintains a clear driving record to provide transportation to clients.
  • Attends weekly and/or monthly staff meetings.
  • Provides and submits at least 25 hours (100 units) of reimbursable services per week.
  • Supports and encourages landlord recruitment and retention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Rehabilitation Services, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Criminal Justice, or Human Growth and Development.
  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Experience in case management and supportive services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of behavioral health symptoms and interventions.
  • Experience in landlord recruitment and retention.
