About the position

The Community Support Specialist/DSP Internship program is designed to provide individuals with the opportunity to explore a career as a Community Support Specialist or Direct Service Professional (DSP). This role is crucial in delivering high-quality services and supports that empower individuals to lead fulfilling lives. As a DSP Intern, you will engage in entry-level duties under the guidance of a qualified DSP for a period of up to three months, working a maximum of thirty hours per week. The responsibilities of a DSP are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual served, focusing on participant empowerment, effective communication, and community networking. In this role, you will facilitate services that enhance community living skills, provide education and training, advocate for individuals, and support their health and wellness. This may include assisting with daily tasks and helping individuals build and maintain healthy relationships. The DSP role is multifaceted and requires a specific set of skills and values, including a commitment to person-centered practices and the ability to recognize and respect the individuality of each person supported. DSPs play a vital role in helping individuals make informed decisions about their lives, including their finances, well-being, and employment. They are mentors and facilitators, creating environments that promote meaningful relationships and community integration. Continuous professional development is emphasized, with DSPs encouraged to engage in ongoing training and education to enhance their skills and competencies. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent or a Certificate of Completion.
  • Must have a valid Identification Card or Driver's License.
  • Must pass a background check and other required health screenings.
