About the position

As a Community Support Specialist at the Maplewood Day Program, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. This full-time position, offering $20 per hour with a potential increase after 90 days, involves working 32.5 hours a week from Monday to Friday, specifically from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Your primary responsibilities will include teaching essential skills that enhance the independence and self-esteem of adults, assisting participants in planning meaningful daily activities that align with their interests and goals, and engaging them in various community and center-based activities such as music therapy and arts and crafts. In this role, you will also be responsible for transporting individuals to and from activities within the St. Louis metropolitan area, providing personal care assistance, and maintaining a thorough understanding of each participant's Individual Support Plans. Documentation is a key aspect of the job, requiring you to complete community event reports, medication administration records, progress notes, and other necessary paperwork in accordance with agency and funder timelines. Responsibilities

  • Teach skills that increase adults' independence, self-esteem, and participation in the community.
  • Assist one to four participants in planning a meaningful day that matches their interests and goals.
  • Engage in activities out in the community and at the Day Center, such as music therapy and arts and crafts.
  • Transport individuals to and from activities in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
  • Assist participants with personal care, including restroom, meals, and dressing.
  • Maintain an understanding of participants' Individual Support Plans and implementation practices.
  • Complete community events reports, medication administration records, progress notes, and other required documentation according to agency and funder timelines.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in customer service, education, medical or human services, preferably supporting individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience, such as knowledge of best practices for supporting people with developmental disabilities.
  • At least 21 years old and three years of driving experience.
  • Reliable vehicle (4 seat belts and working heating/cooling) and valid driver's license and auto insurance at time of hire.
  • Ability to multitask and make decisions independently, including emergency calls.
  • Ability to complete CPR/FA, L1MA, and Mandt training, provided by St. Louis Arc at no cost.
