About the position

The Community Support Specialist at the Charles Lea Center is responsible for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to lead meaningful lives. This role focuses on health and safety management within the individual's home and the implementation of their service goals. The specialist will assess needs, advocate for services, and connect individuals to necessary resources, ensuring they receive comprehensive support in residential, employment, and community settings.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals to live effectively and meaningfully by securing nontraditional services.
  • Assess the needs, wants, and goals of individuals supported.
  • Monitor and advocate for services for individuals with disabilities and special needs.
  • Connect individuals to needed services and resources.
  • Ensure homes are operated and maintained according to expectations.
  • Provide intervention and assistance during emergencies, including hospitalizations and critical incidents.
  • Prepare meals based on established menus considering individual dietary needs.
  • Support individuals in personal grooming and dressing appropriately.
  • Facilitate daily activities and community engagement for individuals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities (preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Exhibit a good work ethic and professionalism.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of experience working with persons with Intellectual Development Disabilities.
