About the position

The Community Support Specialist role at Goodness Village is designed for individuals passionate about helping those transitioning out of chronic homelessness. This position involves working in a supportive environment to foster community building, enforce safety policies, and assist individuals in achieving their health and wellness goals. The role requires a commitment to empathy, harm reduction principles, and effective communication to ensure the well-being of neighbors in the community.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating events and activities for community building.
• Understanding and enforcing policy for safety, health, and stability of the Village.
• Upholding compliance with confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
• Assisting with conflict resolution between neighbors to build trust and foster a safe environment.
• Coaching neighbors on health & wellness goals such as activities of daily living.
• Responding to emergencies (CPR), crisis intervention, and applying de-escalation techniques.
• Performing miscellaneous administrative duties, such as delivering mail/packages and light cleaning.
• Following support plans created by the Case Manager to enhance well-being and long-term goals of neighbors.
• Documenting incidents and communicating pertinent information daily with team members.

Requirements

• Strong passion for aiding individuals facing homelessness.
• High levels of empathy and understanding for those with urgent case management needs.
• Flexibility and orientation towards harm reduction principles.
• Interest and/or understanding in working with harm reduction, substance use/addiction recovery.

Nice-to-haves

• Lived experience and/or work experience with current and/or formerly unhoused community.
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or other social service field.
