About the position

The Community Support Specialist position at Start Corporation offers a unique opportunity to work directly with individuals and families to address their mental health and housing concerns. This role is integral to Start's mission of promoting self-sufficiency and empowering clients to live independently. As a Community Support Specialist, you will provide home and community-based supportive services, helping clients navigate their challenges and access necessary resources. You will be responsible for developing and implementing service plans tailored to each client's needs, incorporating skill-building and supportive interventions to enhance their social and daily living skills. In this position, you will be expected to maintain a caseload, complete all required documentation, and ensure that clients receive at least 25 hours of reimbursable services per week. You will also attend regular staff meetings to collaborate with your team and share insights on client progress. The role requires effective communication and relationship-building skills, as you will be working closely with clients to identify their strengths, needs, and realistic goals. You will also need to demonstrate knowledge of behavioral health symptoms and interventions, ensuring that you maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical guidelines. This position is available at three different levels: Bachelor's, Master's, and Provisional License/Licensed, with a clear salary advancement track based on qualifications and experience. Responsibilities

  • Provides home and community-based supportive services for clients.
  • Arranges for the provision of services from community resources based on the case plan.
  • Incorporates skill building and supportive interventions to restore and rehabilitate social and interpersonal skills and daily living skills.
  • Completes all required documentation and forms for clients on caseload.
  • Ascertains resources outside of Start when necessary to meet client's specific needs.
  • Maintains a clear driving record to drive company vehicles for client transportation.
  • Attends weekly and/or monthly staff meetings.
  • Provides and submits at least 25 hours (100 units) of reimbursable services per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Rehabilitation Services, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Criminal Justice, or Human Growth and Development.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience in caregiving (1 year preferred).
  • Ability to commute to New Orleans, LA.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in behavioral health settings.
  • Knowledge of agency and community resources and referral processes.
