About the position

The Community Support Specialist (Part-time) at UCAN plays a crucial role in providing direct individual and group services to adolescent teens and teen parents living in a transitional setting. This position focuses on life skills and parenting skill development, mentoring, and relationship building, ensuring clients receive the necessary support to improve their daily living and interpersonal skills while adhering to program rules and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily observation of client's behaviors, skills, and emotional status.
  • Assist clients in following their daily schedule and addressing issues of time management.
  • Teach and demonstrate daily living, parenting, coping, and interpersonal skills to clients.
  • Monitor client's compliance with program rules and report infractions to the treatment team.
  • Implement client service plans, monitor progress, and communicate observations to the treatment team.
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records through case notes and documentation.
  • Enter case notes into the Profile and/or SACWIS System and ensure billing quotas are maintained.
  • Report client progress in treatment team meetings and critical incidents to supervisors as required.
  • Develop effective helping relationships with clients and their families.
  • Coordinate client services with the treatment team and respect team decisions.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree preferred with at least 1 year experience working with children and adolescents, OR GED or H.S. Diploma required with 3-5 years' experience working with children and adolescents.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified or becomes certified within 90 days of employment.
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience or ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and access to a car.
