About the position

The Community Support Specialist (CSS) role at Goodwill Northern New England involves working with participants of the LifeWorks Day Program in Waterville, Maine. The CSS provides essential skills training in areas such as independent living, work readiness, and self-advocacy, while also facilitating activities that promote personal growth and independence. This part-time position is focused on making a positive impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive the support needed to thrive in their communities.

Responsibilities

• Support service recipients associated with Goodwill's Life Works Program by following service plans and providing hands-on support in various life skills.
• Moderate verbal or emotional incidents using intervention techniques that maintain the dignity and safety of service recipients.
• Complete all required documentation in accordance with program standards.
• Represent the agency positively in all interactions with the community and the public.
• Contribute to the agency's commitment to integrating social, economic, and environmental goals into planning and actions.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record is necessary.
• Reliable transportation and automobile insurance that meets state requirements.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check that meets agency and state standards.
• Ability to complete required certifications on time.
• Physical ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform tasks involving reaching, bending, stretching, and stooping.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push 175 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience supporting individuals with disabilities.
• Mental health experience when applicable.
• Relevant training such as A.CRMA, B.First Aid/CPR, C.NAPPI, D.College of Direct Support, E.Defensive Driving.
