About the position

The Community Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing integrated behavioral health community support services to children and their families. This full-time position focuses on engaging both the child and parent/caregiver in learning and practicing skills to meet their goals and enhance their functioning. The role requires flexibility in service provision, including day, evening, and weekend hours, to ensure comprehensive support for clients in their home environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized services based on strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences identified collaboratively with client/family.
  • Engage parents in treatment to improve clinical outcomes for the child.
  • Deliver services using a System of Care philosophy and a holistic, person-centered, strengths-based perspective.
  • Support client/family in completing goals identified on Wellness Plans and reassess needs as necessary.
  • Assist families in accessing and arranging services and resources to achieve their goals.
  • Maintain contact with clients during hospitalizations and participate in discharge planning.
  • Provide educational information and skill-building regarding daily living skills, coping skills, and symptom management.
  • Develop and implement crisis intervention plans and provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Assist in developing natural support systems for clients and families.
  • Coordinate with interagency team members to advocate for the mental health needs of the child/family.
  • Complete required documentation collaboratively with clients and families within the required timeframe.
  • Meet service provision expectations per client needs and agency guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate's/Bachelor's/Master's degree in a human service-related field preferred.
  • At least four years of experience in a relevant field if no degree is obtained, or a combination of higher education and experience.
  • At least two years of experience required if an Associate's degree is the highest education obtained.
  • At least one year of experience required if a non-human service Bachelor's degree is the highest education obtained.
  • Experience must include working with individuals with psychiatric, substance use, and/or developmental disabilities.
  • A valid driver's license and agency-established minimum automobile coverage are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in behavioral health support services.
  • Knowledge of the System of Care philosophy.
