About the position

The Community Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing integrated behavioral health community support services to children and their families. This position focuses on engaging both the child and parent/caregiver in learning and practicing skills to meet their goals and enhance their functioning. Services are delivered in a flexible manner, accommodating the needs of clients during the day, evening, and sometimes on weekends. The role emphasizes a collaborative approach, working closely with families to support their treatment goals and improve overall wellness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized services based on strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences identified collaboratively with client/family.
  • Engage parents in treatment to improve clinical outcomes for the child.
  • Deliver services using a holistic, person-centered, strengths-based perspective, incorporating coaching on the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.
  • Support client/family in achieving goals outlined in Wellness Plans, reassessing needs and updating goals as necessary.
  • Assist families in accessing and arranging services and resources to meet their goals.
  • Maintain contact with clients during hospitalization and participate in discharge planning.
  • Provide educational information and skill-building to clients and families regarding daily living skills, coping skills, and symptom management.
  • Develop and implement crisis intervention plans and provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Help clients and families develop natural support systems by collaborating with family members and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in interagency team meetings to advocate for the mental health needs of clients and families.
  • Complete required documentation collaboratively with clients and families within specified timeframes.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in a human service-related field preferred.
  • At least four years of experience in a relevant field if no degree is obtained.
  • At least two years of experience required if an Associate's degree is the highest education obtained.
  • At least one year of experience required if a non-human service Bachelor's degree is the highest education obtained.
  • Experience must include working with individuals with psychiatric, substance use, and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Valid driver's license and agency-established minimum automobile coverage required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting with children and families.
