About the position

The Community Support Specialist (CSS) at The Home for Little Wanderers plays a vital role in fostering a positive learning environment at Clifford Academy, a therapeutic school for youth facing emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. The CSS is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the school day, utilizing therapeutic strategies, and supporting students in their academic and vocational pursuits.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the CSS Coordinator to initiate and maintain effective school structures and routines.
• Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention strategies when supporting youth.
• Operate within and outside of classrooms to assist students in meeting their academic and vocational expectations.
• Ensure completion of all necessary paperwork including incident reporting.
• Provide coverage of shifts as needed, including support for students residing at the Walpole campus.
• Help manage medical and emergency situations.
• Ensure students adhere to school policies as detailed in the Clifford Academy Handbook.
• Perform other school community support duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Principal.
• Ensure all safety precautions are taken when students are entering and exiting the school.

Requirements

• Equivalent to two years of college and/or two years of child care experience in a residential setting with a similar population.
• Supervisory experience is helpful.
• Computer literate including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer with the ability to learn new software applications.
