About the position

The Community Support Specialist will act as our program's Regional Volunteer Coordinator for our Lincoln Region, which encompasses eight counties surrounding Lancaster county. This position has two core responsibilities. The first is to provide Medicare education to the public on an individual basis throughout the year and during Medicare's Open Enrollment. The second core duty of this position is to coordinate region volunteer activities to include recruitment and training of new volunteers, provide outreach and education to the public via speaking engagement, booths, and classes, and promote the Nebraska SHIP and SMP by engaging in partnership building activities within the community. In this role, the Community Support Specialist will provide one-on-one Medicare education to the public via in-person, phone, or web-based tools. They will also provide office support to ensure the program meets its goals, including answering calls into our hotline and assisting walk-in traffic. Additionally, the specialist will coordinate region volunteer activities, which include recruitment and training of new volunteers, offering support to volunteers in addressing questions about Medicare and related topics, and providing outreach and education to the public in a speaking role. The specialist will also promote and build the Nebraska SHIP and SMP network through public engagement.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualification: Post high school coursework/training in social work, human services, public administration, human development, social sciences, psychology, public relations or related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, or other health insurance.
  • Experience in volunteer or team coordination.
  • Experience in training/teaching/coaching a complicated or detailed topic.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

  • Must be able to work within a team and collaborate, but also be able to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Skilled in researching and understanding complicated information and helping others understand in simpler terms.
