About the position

The Community Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting consumers to maintain competitive employment and develop essential life skills within the community. This position focuses on promoting individual success, independence, and respect while working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams under the guidance of the Vocational Associate Program Director.

Responsibilities

• Advise consumers through the employer's onboarding process and assist in resolving barriers to success.
• Guide consumers through the employer's new employee training process.
• Assist employers and consumers in creating practical work schedules.
• Establish transportation services to and from the worksite and provide mobility training when necessary.
• Assist consumers in maintaining employment status and provide ongoing support services to promote job retention and advancement.
• Coordinate services with employers and consumers to enhance work performance and job satisfaction through regular visits.
• Provide ongoing training assistance and individual counseling to enhance problem-solving and self-advocacy skills.
• Advocate for consumers in matters affecting their performance, workplace environment, job status, pay, and benefits.
• Encourage consumers to support job retention and potential advancement.
• Track and monitor the progress of consumers' skill learning through goals developed by the program Intake Coordinator.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Driver's License
• Up to date Auto Insurance
• Maintain acceptable motor vehicle report
• Previous work experience providing services to persons with developmental disabilities (preferred, not required)
