About the position

The Community Support Specialist at Adjoin plays a crucial role in providing direct services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position focuses on implementing training and support programs that enhance clients' quality of life, helping them navigate educational and employment opportunities while fostering a supportive community environment. The specialist is responsible for developing individual skills, maintaining professional relationships, and ensuring client safety during activities.

Responsibilities

  • Implement individual training and support programs in post-secondary education, pre-employment, volunteering, and social/recreation services.
  • Develop, secure, and coordinate appropriate community resources and settings for clients.
  • Provide activities of social/behavioral value in the community, including education in anger management and communication skills.
  • Maintain positive and professional communications with supervisors, clients, employers, and families.
  • Participate in client evaluations through task analysis and other assessment devices.
  • Provide logs, reports, and client evaluations in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety of clients and staff during activities.
  • Perform all duties of a direct service provider as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in navigating post-secondary educational processes.
  • One year of experience in a social service setting assisting disadvantaged or vulnerable groups.
  • Ability to follow instructions and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR, or ability to complete within 45 days of hire.
  • Insured, registered vehicle in safe working condition and proof of current driver's license.
  • Mobile smart device with reliable internet connectivity for job tasks.
