About the position

Cincinnati Animal CARE (CAC) is a progressive, no-kill organization that has taken over the operations of the Hamilton County Animal Shelter and Dog Warden since August 1st, 2020. Our mission is to meet the immediate needs of animals in our community through individualized care, lifesaving solutions, and temporary shelter until they can find a safe and compatible home. Each year, nearly 8,000 animals arrive at our shelter, and we maintain care for around 500 animals at any given time. We believe that lifesaving is a community ethic and are committed to providing exceptional animal services through a collaborative and holistic approach to sheltering. Our dedicated team of nearly 90 compassionate staff members, along with hundreds of volunteers and fosters, work tirelessly to ensure that all animals are valued, protected, and have a safe place to call home. The Community Support Specialist plays a crucial role in this mission by partnering with the community to achieve the best outcomes for pets and their owners. This position requires an empathetic and compassionate approach to assist community members with various needs, including surrendering animals, admitting found animals, and problem-solving to keep pets in their homes. Community Support Specialists must be organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong listening and problem-solving skills. They will work extensively with the public to identify barriers, assess needs, and provide consultation and support. The role also involves outreach efforts in underserved areas, building relationships, and extending free pet care resources to those in need. The ideal candidate will have a significant understanding of systemic issues affecting underserved populations and a commitment to serving the community with kindness and without judgment.
