About the position

OPTIONS Family of Services, a local non-profit organization, strives to help people with intellectual disabilities meet their wants and desires as citizens within their community. We serve 200 people from Paso Robles to Santa Maria. Daily, we improve the lives of those we serve. We are currently looking for full and part-time staff to work with our individuals at our group home in San Luis Obispo. Hours available are weekday evenings (3pm-10pm), weekends (any time), and sleeping overnight shifts (10pm-9am). Prior experience is desired but not required. Community Support Specialists work in a home or community setting with up to 6 individuals with intellectual disabilities helping them learn to cook, clean and do laundry, as well as helping them to work on their social interaction and behavioral goals. They also provide support with other personal needs such as passing medication, budgeting, meal planning and preparation, and hygiene needs. The starting rate for this position is $20.50 per hour. Staff who have completed Direct Support Professional Training year 1 and year 2 through the State of California will earn $21 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals with intellectual disabilities in a home or community setting.
  • Assist individuals in learning daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
  • Support individuals in achieving their social interaction and behavioral goals.
  • Provide assistance with personal needs including medication management, budgeting, meal planning, and hygiene.
  • Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • California Driver's License is required.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is desired but not mandatory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of Direct Support Professional Training year 1 and year 2 through the State of California.
