About the position

The Community Support Specialist at AccessPoint RI plays a vital role in providing personalized support to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The position focuses on fostering personal growth, achieving individual goals, and ensuring that participants experience dignity and respect in their interactions. The specialist collaborates with team members and families to create a supportive environment that encourages community participation and positive relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all individuals and families supported are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Provide supports and services consistent with the individuals' personal support plans.
  • Support individuals and their families in developing a positive self-image.
  • Treat each individual and their family as persons who have unique needs and wants.
  • Support individuals and families to function to their fullest potential.
  • Assist individuals and families in exercising control over the services and supports they receive.
  • Provide daily and ongoing support in areas such as lifting, personal hygiene, and nutrition.
  • Encourage individuals and families to maintain positive relationships.
  • Work with individuals and families to develop a conducive learning environment.
  • Complete preparation materials and participate in semi-annual planning meetings.
  • Attend in-service training as determined by the Program Director/Coordinator.
  • Support and carry out all team decisions consistently and appropriately.
  • Ensure the optimal health and safety of individuals receiving supports.
  • Administer medication as appropriate.
  • Maintain open communication with family supervisors on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, including safe driving and seatbelt policies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Willingness and ability to complete CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI), HIPAA, and Human Rights training required.
  • Ongoing access to an insured automobile required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
