About the position

The Community Support Specialist at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington is a direct-care role dedicated to assisting adults with developmental disabilities in achieving their personal goals while respecting their rights and choices. This position involves creating a supportive and engaging environment, facilitating communication, and promoting health and wellness through various activities both onsite and in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in PCP meetings and implements goals as agreed in the participant's team meetings.
  • Documents participants' daily activities, behaviors, and goal progress in detail.
  • Creates a stimulating learning environment with sensory, physical, and community activities.
  • Communicates effectively with participants, their families, and team members.
  • Provides personal assistance to persons with disabilities.
  • Promotes communication using alternative or traditional means.
  • Engages participants in health and wellness activities.
  • Maintains the program site area and program vehicles.
  • Safely transports participants to community outings in an Agency vehicle.
  • Records and administers medication to clients as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with persons with severe and multiple disabilities.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification is a plus.
  • Valid local driver's license and a good driving record.
