About the position

The Community Support Specialist (CSS) at The Bindu Institute plays a crucial role in assisting wounded warriors with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injuries and other neurological conditions. This part-time position focuses on helping clients achieve independence and reintegrate into their communities through personalized support and advocacy. The CSS develops and modifies care plans, provides functional support, and facilitates participation in social and recreational activities, ensuring that clients can live fulfilling lives on their own terms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional support to clients based on their Individualized Care Plan to improve independence.
  • Help clients reintegrate into their communities to encourage a healthy level of independence.
  • Advocate for clients and provide positive support in decision-making processes.
  • Assist with household management, including maintaining cleanliness and establishing efficient routines.
  • Train clients in financial management and decision-making regarding purchases.
  • Facilitate participation in recreational and community activities to promote socialization.
  • Support clients in improving community living and integration skills in various settings.
  • Provide training or assistance with mobility and accessing public transportation.
  • Aid clients in developing effective communication and social skills.
  • Conduct exercises or reinforce therapeutic programs as defined by therapists.
  • Educate clients on problem-solving skills and strategies.
  • Accompany clients to community locations and appointments to utilize resources and services.
  • Serve as a mentor and maintain communication with clients, families, and caregivers.
  • Participate in team meetings and training to enhance job skills.

Requirements

  • Experience with individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury is required.
  • Military background is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or 1-2 years of experience working with adults who are developmentally disabled is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Background check and driver's record check are mandatory.

  • Experience in case management responsibilities and daily documentation.
