About the position

The Community Support Specialist at the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) will play a crucial role in providing direct services and case management within the Community Development Department. This full-time position, reporting to the Community Development Director, involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting clients through financial, employment, and digital coaching, as well as offering free tax preparation services. The specialist will ensure compliance with grant agreements and program guidelines while working directly with clients to assess their needs and develop tailored action plans. This position is strictly onsite, emphasizing the importance of face-to-face interactions in building trust and rapport with clients. In this role, the Community Support Specialist will engage in case management by conducting one-on-one, couple, or small group sessions. They will assess client needs, facilitate access to social, financial, health, and legal services, and advocate for clients to ensure they receive the necessary support. Building relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and financial institutions will be essential for developing resources that benefit clients. The specialist will also be responsible for tracking client progress, modifying action plans as needed, and ensuring confidentiality of all client information. Additionally, the specialist will focus on enhancing clients' financial capabilities by conducting detailed assessments, assisting with budgeting, and providing strategies for improving financial health. They will help clients navigate job searches, prepare resumes, and practice interview skills. The role also includes conducting community workshops on relevant topics such as budgeting, savings, and credit building, as well as participating in outreach efforts to recruit program participants. The Community Support Specialist will be expected to document client outcomes accurately and provide reports for grant management and funding purposes. Overall, this position is vital for empowering clients to achieve their personal and financial goals through comprehensive support and education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services and case management for all programs under the Community Development Department.
  • Conduct one-on-one, couple, or small group sessions to assess client needs and develop action plans.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and social, financial, health, and legal services.
  • Cultivate relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and financial institutions to develop resources for clients.
  • Review and modify client action plans as circumstances change, ensuring ongoing support and follow-up.
  • Complete all required forms for participants based on program and service guidelines.
  • Make appropriate referrals and integrate wrap-around supports into counseling sessions.
  • Work with clients to complete detailed financial and career assessments.
  • Assist clients with tax preparation services after passing an IRS certification exam.
  • Conduct workshops on budgeting, savings, and other relevant topics for the community.
  • Participate in program recruitment through community outreach and partnerships.
  • Provide key data and updates for grant reporting and internal management check-ins.
  • Attend conferences and workshops to represent the organization professionally.
  • Assist with community events and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in case management.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, with excellent writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and self-motivation.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Commitment to excellence and attention to detail.
