About the position

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Community Support Specialist to join our Long-term Adult Supports and Resources (LASR) team. Under the general direction of the LASR Program Coordinator, the Community Support Specialist will conduct individual and group instruction and service provision to a caseload of participants in both facility and community-based settings. This role is crucial in facilitating the implementation of services by outside agencies or qualified individuals in accordance with the Long-term Adult Supports and Resources Plans. The Community Support Specialist will work closely with program participants, their families, social workers, and other members of the support team to develop and implement Individual Plans tailored to each participant's needs. This includes maintaining supports and services within the allotted budget, reviewing plans quarterly to assess progress and identify barriers to goal achievement, and creating and maintaining confidential files for each participant. The role also involves developing a network of community resources to support the implementation of Individual Plans and coordinating learning materials or environments that meet the specific needs of each participant. In addition to these responsibilities, the Community Support Specialist will provide support to program participants in the community, helping to increase motivation and providing consistent reinforcement of learning. Continuous assessment of each participant's level of functioning and feedback on learning activities will be essential. The role may also involve facilitating excursions for participants that are directly related to the skills they are developing through program services, including managing the requisition of funds for these activities. The Community Support Specialist will also work with parents and participants to help them develop skills in managing disabilities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and group instruction and service provision to participants.
  • Develop and implement Individual Plans in collaboration with participants, parents, and social workers.
  • Maintain supports and services for goals within the allotted budget.

  • Create and maintain confidential files for participants.
  • Develop and maintain a network of community resources for implementing Individual Plans.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree (B.A.) and one year of related experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED with 1-2 years of related experience is acceptable.
  • Valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle with valid registration and safety.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is required.
  • TB clearance and clearance of Criminal History Record and Adult/Child Protective Services Central Registry checks that meet Goodwill's standards.
