About the position

The Community Support Specialist at Ravens Nest Foundation, Inc. is a part-time, contract role focused on providing support and guidance to clients, particularly students, in their educational and vocational pursuits. The specialist will maintain confidentiality, assess client needs, and collaborate with other professionals to develop tailored programs that enhance client performance and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
  • Review records and interview clients to determine interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality traits.
  • Refer cases of pregnancy, health problems, and alcohol or drug abuse to specialized counselors.
  • Suggest and administer further tests to measure special skills and interests or to diagnose learning disabilities.
  • Counsel clients and parents concerning educational or vocational possibilities and necessary individual instruction or behavior modification.
  • Discuss with other professionals additional services to benefit individual clients.
  • Coordinate information gathered and propose a program to achieve desired goals.
  • Discuss alternatives with students and advise in selection of the most desirable course of action.
  • Serve as a reference source for current information on colleges, technical education, apprenticeships, and government training programs.
  • Review and evaluate progress, recommending modifications as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least twenty semester hours of college coursework in social work, psychology, or a closely related field.
  • One year of experience providing direct mental health services and/or case management in a human service delivery setting.
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in education or psychology with special training in guidance counseling.
  • At least two years of teaching experience or previous counseling experience under supervised conditions.
  • Desirable: Master's degree in education or psychology.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mental health disorders and treatment interventions, preferably in a behavioral healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of and professional skills for satisfactorily treating clients with social, financial, and functional deficits.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, families, service providers, and other professional staff.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
