About the position

The Community Support Specialist (CSS) at The Bindu Institute plays a crucial role in assisting wounded warriors who are dealing with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, or other neurological conditions. The primary mission of the institute is to empower these individuals to live life on their own terms, facilitating their ability to choose how they live, learn, work, socialize, and engage in recreational activities. The CSS will work collaboratively with clients to establish personalized goals and develop tailored plans that adapt to their evolving needs. This position is designed to foster a long-term partnership with the warriors, ensuring they receive the necessary support and training to engage in meaningful activities that enhance their quality of life. In this role, the CSS will provide functional support based on the goals outlined in each warrior's Individualized Care Plan. This includes helping clients reintegrate into their communities, encouraging independence, and advocating for their choices. The CSS will assist with various aspects of daily living, including household management, meal preparation, budgeting, and vocational exploration. The position also involves training clients in cognitive skills, exercise, and other community-based activities that promote socialization and relationship-building. The CSS will be responsible for guiding clients in making informed decisions about their activities and life choices, providing structure in household management, and assisting with financial decision-making. Additionally, the role includes facilitating participation in recreational and community activities, improving community living skills, and providing mobility training. The CSS will also conduct exercises and reinforce therapeutic programs as defined by therapists, educate clients on problem-solving strategies, and accompany them to community appointments to help them access resources and services.
