About the position

Sycamores provides a spectrum of equitable mental health services through various programs to multicultural populations of all acuities. Although it serves a variety of consumers, the agency focuses primarily on providing care for low-income, high at-risk youth. The role of the Community Wellness Specialist - Educational Support Services is to provide behavioral, and academic, interventions and supports that develop coping and problem solving skills which promote safety, academic success, and attachment; and teach transference of those skills into the school, and into the home and community when needed. These interventions are provided to maintain youth in the least restrictive school environment possible, with carryover to the home and community when needed, and are developed within the student team meeting process. Additionally, this is a position that is focused on wellness and building resilience through interventions, linkages and referrals to appropriate community resources when identified as a need.

Responsibilities

  • Provide behavioral and academic interventions and supports.
  • Develop coping and problem-solving skills in youth.
  • Promote safety, academic success, and attachment.
  • Teach transference of skills into school, home, and community.
  • Maintain youth in the least restrictive school environment.
  • Participate in the student team meeting process.
  • Link and refer youth to appropriate community resources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or AA degree with one year of direct care experience required; two years of direct care experience preferred, OR Bachelor's degree plus one year of direct care experience preferred.
  • Maintain all required licenses and certifications.
  • Valid California Driver License and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier.
  • Availability to ride the school bus both in the morning and after school.
  • Strong computer and typing skills to complete necessary documentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Residential Facility, Special Education Classroom, Group Home, or Probation.
  • Knowledge of both behavioral and academic interventions.
  • Knowledge of resources in Service Area.
