About the position

The Senior Territory Representative for Companion Animal at Merck is responsible for engaging with veterinary clinics, shelters, and corporate accounts within the San Bernardino, California territory. This role focuses on understanding customer needs, promoting the Animal Health division's Companion Animal product portfolio, and driving sales growth through strategic customer interactions and collaboration with field sales teams. The representative plays a critical role in ensuring that the company's offerings are perceived as valuable and innovative, aligning with the strategic focus on improving animal health.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate about the product portfolio in a meaningful way tailored to individual customer needs.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned customers, meeting with key personnel to understand their business models and needs.
  • Develop customer strategies to identify business opportunities and drive sales growth.
  • Create territory and account plans for key customers, collaborating with National Account Managers and Distribution Field Partners.
  • Work collaboratively across species teams to enhance knowledge of the entire Animal Health product portfolio.
  • Share insights and strategies with team members to foster growth and development within the team.
  • Analyze monthly sales results and manage expenses within budget guidelines.
  • Identify and select programs/services to address customer needs and provide education and training opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership and Field Professional Services to develop relevant offerings for customers.
  • Stay updated on Animal Health products, industry trends, and competitor landscape.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required (pending degrees considered if completed before starting).
  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated motivation and focus on achieving measurable results.
  • Commitment to collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Ability to understand and adapt to customers' evolving needs and expectations.
  • Effective application of selling techniques while managing multiple accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse mix of accounts independently.
  • Proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and ability to use an iPad.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and work some weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Sales experience in the Animal Health Industry.
  • Knowledge of animal health biological and pharmaceutical products.
  • Experience working with distribution.
  • Multi-lingual fluency, particularly in Spanish.
