About the position

The Companion II position at Athena Care at Home involves providing compassionate non-medical personal care to clients, assisting them with activities of daily living, and ensuring their safety and well-being in their homes. This role is essential in supporting clients with physical, emotional, or cognitive impairments, and it offers opportunities for professional growth within a dedicated care team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, ambulation, eating/feeding, continence care)
  • Skin monitoring to maintain the health of the skin
  • Range of motion (ROM) and muscle strengthening exercises to maintain an optimal level of functioning
  • Turning and positioning of the client as required by a skilled nurse
  • Medication reminders
  • Application and maintenance of prosthetics and orthotics
  • Meal planning, preparation, and grocery shopping
  • Accompanying clients to medical appointments
  • Assisting, monitoring, or prompting the client to complete daily tasks
  • Redirection, monitoring, and observation integral to the care plan
  • Appropriate reporting of changes in client status
  • Perform routine household tasks as assigned in a care plan
  • Cleaning areas including bathroom, kitchen, living area, and laundry
  • Takes a genuine interest in client needs and ensures a safe environment
  • Monitors and reports client's concerns to appropriate parties
  • Driving clients to planned outings or events
  • Providing emotional support for clients.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Must have an active and unencumbered CNA, PCA, or HHA license in the state
  • Excellent customer service and listening skills
  • Must have a reliable source of transportation including an insured vehicle
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate professional judgments
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Access to a working telephone for regular communication.
