About the position

The Comparative Medicine Technician position at the Broad Institute involves providing essential animal care support, including health monitoring, veterinary care, and husbandry for various species. Technicians will ensure compliance with standard operating procedures while maintaining records and supporting research staff in a collaborative biomedical science environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor animal health and well-being.
  • Evaluate animal health and report abnormal conditions.
  • Provide clinical treatments as directed by veterinarian or program management.
  • Document, organize, and maintain timely records in the laboratory animal resource software system.
  • Provide technical services and support to research staff.
  • Provide and monitor enrichment enhancements for animals.
  • Maintain breeding, identification, and gestational databases.
  • Operate bio-safety cabinets and animal transfer stations.
  • Assist with preparing autoclaved caging material for animal colonies.
  • Occasionally operate mechanical cage wash units and sterilization equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with required regulations and institutional procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 0-4 years of experience in a laboratory animal husbandry position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with research staff and peers.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and push/pull 300lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • AALAS certification preferred.
