About the position

The Compensation Analyst I plays a crucial role in the administration of staff compensation and classification programs at the University. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws while analyzing and evaluating positions to determine appropriate titles, pay ranges, and organizational hierarchy. The goal is to maintain both external competitiveness and internal equity within the university's compensation structure. The analyst will provide guidance to HR Business Partners and assist in various compensation-related projects and initiatives. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Compensation Analyst I will research and analyze staff position descriptions to ensure accurate classification and compensation. This includes evaluating Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status and Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) coding, as well as benchmarking university staff positions against industry standards. The analyst will compile salary information for salary surveys and consult with various departments on classification, compensation practices, promotions, and any issues related to pay. Staying informed about all relevant federal, state, and local laws governing compensation is essential for this role. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. The Compensation Analyst I must also possess strong analytical skills and be detail-oriented, ensuring that all compensation-related tasks are executed with a commitment to quality and accuracy. Excellent customer service skills are necessary to effectively communicate with department representatives and employees at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration of staff compensation and classification programs and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws regarding compensation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with some compensation or human resources experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of compensation or human resources experience.
  • Ability to build, maintain, and work effectively with colleagues, faculty, and staff.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-directed and detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of current job markets and trends.

  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Experience reviewing position descriptions for classification and FLSA status.
