About the position

The Senior Compensation Analyst is a vital member of the Human Resources Compensation team at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB). This role plays a key part in ensuring that the university's compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and compliant with industry standards. The Senior Compensation Analyst will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive compensation programs that align with institutional goals and market standards. This includes conducting market and equity reviews to help attract, retain, and motivate top talent within the university. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a deep understanding of compensation best practices, market trends, salary survey methodologies, regulatory requirements, and relevant technologies. Success in this role requires strong collaboration with staff, faculty, leadership, team members, and third-party vendors to develop effective compensation strategies. The Senior Compensation Analyst will also be expected to stay updated on compensation trends, regulatory changes, and best practices to recommend continuous improvements to the compensation programs. In addition to the design and implementation of compensation programs, the Senior Compensation Analyst will perform market analysis and internal equity reviews to ensure competitive and fair compensation practices. This role will involve participating in salary surveys using market pricing systems to maintain current market data for informed compensation decisions. The analyst will also collaborate with various departments to review and evaluate job descriptions, ensuring alignment with job structures and responsibilities. Furthermore, the position requires the development of detailed reports and presentations on compensation strategies, market competitiveness, and compliance, utilizing HRIS and other information systems to analyze large data sets and identify trends.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive compensation programs that align with institutional goals and market standards.
  • Perform market analysis and internal equity reviews to ensure competitive and fair compensation practices.
  • Participate in salary surveys using market pricing systems to maintain current market data for informed compensation decisions.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to review and evaluate job descriptions, ensuring alignment with job structures and responsibilities.
  • Stay updated on compensation trends, regulatory changes, and best practices to recommend continuous improvements.
  • Develop detailed reports and presentations on compensation strategies, market competitiveness, and compliance.
  • Work closely with staff, faculty, leadership, and third-party vendors to develop and maintain effective compensation strategies.
  • Utilize HRIS and other information systems to analyze large data sets, leveraging tools such as pivot tables to identify trends, gain insights, and develop reports and charts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of related experience required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Certification as a CCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred.
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
