About the position

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Compensation Analyst within the Human Resources Department. This role is pivotal in providing compensation solutions that align with the City’s business objectives and ensure market competitiveness. Under the direction of the Chief Human Resource Officer, the Compensation Analyst will be responsible for analyzing employee compensation packages, maintaining and developing salary structures, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. The position requires a thorough understanding of compensation practices and the ability to conduct both internal and external market analyses to determine competitive compensation trends. The Compensation Analyst will perform continual compensation and market analysis, assist in the preparation and planning of market rate adjustments, and make salary recommendations to ensure that salaries remain competitive. This role also involves researching and creating regulatory data submissions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, particularly focusing on pay transparency and pay equity. The analyst will be tasked with conducting data and cost analysis for employee and collective bargaining agreement negotiations, calculating retroactive calculations, and analyzing new positions and reclassification requests to determine job classification and compensation value. In addition to these responsibilities, the Compensation Analyst will support the development and maintenance of compensation policies and procedures, prepare spreadsheets and reports to support recommendations, and present reports on compensation data and trends to HR management. Collaboration with the Hiring Division, HR business partners, and managers is essential to provide guidance on compensation-related issues. The role also includes reviewing and making recommendations for position classifications, conducting salary surveys, and researching employee benefits to suggest updates to current plans or policies. Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal and external market analysis to determine competitive compensation trends.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to compensation.
  • Research, create and submit regulatory data submissions to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct data and cost analysis for employee and collective bargaining agreement negotiations.
  • Calculate retroactive calculations for compensation adjustments.
  • Analyze new positions and reclassification requests to determine job classification and compensation value.
  • Support the development and maintenance of compensation policies, procedures, and pay scales.
  • Prepare and present reports on compensation data and trends to HR management.
  • Collaborate with the Hiring Division and HR business partners to provide guidance on compensation-related issues.
  • Review and make recommendations for position classifications and conduct salary surveys.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Human Resources, Public Administration, Accounting, Mathematics, Business, or related discipline.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a compensation business partner, including developing and maintaining salary structures and data analytics.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Pivot Tables, and XLOOKUP and/or VLOOKUP.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with data visualization and analytical tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Finance, Human Resources, Public Administration, Data Analytics, Accounting, Mathematics, Business, or related discipline.
  • Three (3) years of experience in business, financial, and/or economics information management.
  • Three (3) years of experience analyzing and interpreting large quantities of data, including financial/statistical data.
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a Human Resources office setting.
  • Prior experience working with Workday.
