About the position

The Compensation Analyst at the Illinois Tollway plays a crucial role in the administration of compensation operations, ensuring adherence to compensation philosophy, policies, and practices. This position is integral to optimizing resource use and fostering a healthy work environment to attract and retain talent necessary for the Tollway's mission. The analyst will manage job evaluations, collaborate on salary offers, conduct market analysis, and support training related to compensation delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Administers compensation philosophy, policies, processes, and programs, including annual merit and cost of living adjustments.
  • Ensures accurate and complete job descriptions for all positions.
  • Manages the job evaluation process, ensuring accurate job descriptions and title structures organization-wide.
  • Collaborates with Talent Acquisition and hiring managers on competitive and equitable salary offers and recommendations.
  • Completes routine audits of employee data and classifications.
  • Participates in salary surveys and reviews results of market data as a comparison to the Tollway's salary ranges; conducts salary benchmarking analysis as needed.
  • Conducts analysis related to external market studies and internal pay challenges, including pay equity and compression.
  • Partners with HR Talent Acquisition and Professional Learning teams to build and deliver training and communication to support compensation philosophy and delivery.
  • Answers general inquiries, interprets policies, and shares market best practice information as appropriate.
  • Protects company proprietary information and maintains confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of compensation experience.
  • Excellent verbal/written communications and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and aptitude for statistical analysis, spreadsheet manipulation, and database management.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office, statistical software, and advanced web applications.
  • Solid understanding of labor markets and analytical skills to benchmark and report on compensation issues.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and application of Federal and State employment laws: FLSA, EEO, etc.
  • Ability to think creatively about alternatives and develop new ideas for work-related problems.
  • Strong work ethic with impeccable judgment and integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • PHR/SPHR and/or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certifications.
  • Knowledge of the Illinois Tollway system.
  • Experience working in a unionized labor environment.
  • Prior public sector experience.
