About the position

Zurich is currently seeking an experienced Loss Sensitive Casualty Underwriter to join our Middle Market Complex Casualty Underwriting team in the Midwest. This position is open to candidates in Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City, and requires established relationships with Brokers in the Midwest. The role is both technical and market-facing, focusing on our complex/loss sensitive casualty products, making it an excellent opportunity to be part of an expanding team. The successful candidate will be expected to travel to the Chicagoland area as part of their responsibilities. While the position will be based out of one of our office locations, we offer the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis or remotely for those not located within commuting distance to one of our offices in the region. You will collaborate with your manager to establish a flexible work schedule that accommodates your needs, as well as those of our customers, brokers, and agents. Visibility in the marketplace is crucial, as you will be required to meet with agents and brokers regularly. This role can be filled at either the Senior or AVP underwriting level, with the hiring manager determining the appropriate level based on the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position. Our Underwriters are market-facing, with objectives centered on profitable growth and superior service to our broker partners and customers. Responsibilities include generating, underwriting, and analyzing domestic Complex and Loss Sensitive Casualty business, engaging in market-facing and production activities, and ensuring compliance with underwriting rules, insurance laws, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Generate, underwrite, and analyze domestic Complex and Loss Sensitive Casualty business.
  • Engage in market-facing and production activities.
  • Comply with underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
  • Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships.
  • Work within broad limits and authorities on complex assignments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Brokerage or Market Facing area.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Brokerage or Market Facing area (for AVP level).
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (for AVP level).
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area (for AVP level).
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area (for AVP level).
