About the position

The Compliance Implementation Manager at the Non-GMO Project plays a crucial role in maintaining the technical integrity of the Product Verification Program. This position is part of the Standards & Verification team, which is dedicated to staying informed about developments in the world of GMOs and supporting third-party certifiers known as Technical Administrators (TAs) in administering the Non-GMO Project Standard. The team is composed of a diverse group of professionals, including scientists, researchers, and industry veterans, all working collaboratively to ensure that the Non-GMO Project Standard remains the most trusted standard for GMO avoidance in North America. In this role, the Compliance Implementation Manager will be responsible for translating compliance outcomes into clear, actionable requirements while considering the broader implications of these standards. The ideal candidate will have a passion for learning about the complexities of various industries, particularly in food and agriculture, and will thrive in a collaborative environment where brainstorming and creative problem-solving are encouraged. The position requires excellent communication skills, as the manager will need to convey technical concepts to a wide range of audiences, including third-party technical administrators and brands participating in the Product Verification Program. The Compliance Implementation Manager will also be tasked with breaking down complex projects into manageable tasks, ensuring progress is made, and overcoming obstacles to bring initiatives to completion. This role demands a solid foundation of related experience, a drive to learn on the job, and the ability to become a subject matter expert in the implementation of standards and the Non-GMO Project Standard itself.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and disseminate standardized program documents and technical administrator reporting templates; maintain document control procedures.
  • Track, manage and report on compliance deadlines; work with technical administrators as required to ensure program participants complete compliance transitions.
  • Create and maintain a Technical Implementation Calendar managed according to organizational priorities, program needs, and changes in the larger GMO landscape.
  • Write implementation guidance, integrating peer-written interpretive guidance, and publish to technical administrators to support their clarity in understanding Standard requirements.
  • Manage recurring program activities such as periodic updates to information tables that inform compliance.
  • Plan, execute, and facilitate technically-focused events.
  • Provide visibility into and project management for longer-term projects.
  • Develop processes to harmonize the application of compliance requirements using iterative and collaborative approaches with both technical administrators and internal stakeholders.
  • Function as technical liaison for technical administrators helping them troubleshoot challenges relating to PVP technical implementation.
  • Manage the Technical Administrator Portal (TAP), a key resource for technical administrators to access technical and other business collateral, applying continuous improvement and optimum user experience principles.
  • Develop the concept for, plan, produce, and facilitate technical administrator gatherings for the generative exchange of non-confidential information and ideas to support program integrity and elegance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in the certification space in the technical division of either a standard-owning organization or a certifier.
  • 3+ years of managing 1-3 direct reports.
  • Experience working with external stakeholders in both service provider and service receiver roles.
  • Experience with designing and leading projects of various durations.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, manipulate, and interpret data.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn quickly and think strategically.
  • Solid computer literacy, including experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Education, lived experience, professional experience, or a combination thereof in the fields of agriculture, biology, supply chain management, manufacturing, or food science is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce, Google Sites (or other website applications), and Smartsheets is preferred.
