About the position

We seek an experienced ERISA and employee benefits health plan lawyer who is interested in pursuing a challenging and growth-oriented consulting career path. Depending on circumstances, the work schedule will either be hybrid (partly in-office, partly from home) or fully remote (from home). You'll work with a highly talented national compliance consulting team in a role that offers visibility and the opportunity to be influential as you contribute to developing solutions for and advising external clients. You will gain valuable experience in both the technical and operational sides of compliance-related issues and be expected to evolve as a nationally-recognized expert in compliance issues related to group health plans. Some travel will be required to company offices, industry conferences and client meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting compliance reviews concerning ERISA, Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, Affordable Care Act, and other federal health laws.
  • Monitoring federal statutes and regulations applicable to group health plans and drafting summaries, researching and drafting statements on technical issues for National Practice Leadership consideration.
  • Drafting and reviewing participant explanatory material (e.g., summary plan descriptions, announcement letters, summary of material modifications, plan documents, summaries of benefits and coverage, etc.) including preparation of company models.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior staff, training benefit consultants and clients as needed; conducting in-house and external presentations on new development in legislation/ regulation and other technical issues.
  • Supporting marketing and business-development initiative to grow revenue and profitability.

Requirements

  • J.D. with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience performing in servicing-oriented roles focusing on ERISA and related health legislation and regulations; experience at the US Departments of Labor, Treasury, or Health and Human Services is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and/or expertise in state and local paid leave laws, Family and Medical Leave Act, Public Health Service Act and related health legislation and regulations, Medicare, Medicare Part D, and Medicare Advantage Programs, including Employer Group Waiver Plans.
  • Familiarity with union environments and benefits litigation are pluses.
