About the position

As a Compliance Management Trainee at BNSF Railway, you will be integral to ensuring that the company meets its mission through objective assurance and consulting activities aimed at reducing risk and enhancing operations. The Compliance Team plays a vital role in shaping and maintaining BNSF's ethical culture by developing policies and mechanisms for reporting, investigating, monitoring, and correcting non-compliance. This position offers a unique opportunity to participate in a comprehensive training program that provides hands-on experience in audit and compliance processes, directly contributing to the integrity and excellence of our operations. In this role, you will engage in various responsibilities, including conducting investigations into alleged fraud, waste, or misuse of company resources. These investigations will require you to critically analyze complex facts and business processes, such as procurement, disbursement, travel expenses, timekeeping, and payroll. You will document evidence and communicate the results of your investigations to senior leadership through written reports and verbal briefings. Additionally, you will leverage technology to detect and deter fraud or abuse, which necessitates an understanding of how various information systems operate and the ability to design and implement solutions to prevent fraud and abuse within those systems. You will also have opportunities to execute Fraud Risk Assessments and implement recommended activities to strengthen internal controls and improve monitoring to mitigate fraud risks. This aspect of the role requires effective organization and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing based on continual reassessment of risks and scope. The position is a full-time, hybrid role requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, split between office and remote work, with occasional weekend or evening work as needed. Training will commence with a week of orientation in Fort Worth, Texas, providing a company overview and networking opportunities with leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations into alleged fraud, waste, or misuse of company resources.

  • Document evidence and communicate results of investigations to senior leadership through written reports and/or verbal briefings.
  • Leverage technology to detect and deter fraud or abuse.
  • Execute Fraud Risk Assessments and implement recommended scope activities to strengthen internal controls and improve monitoring to mitigate fraud risks.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing based on continual reassessment of risks and scope.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, Management Information Systems, Legal Studies, Finance, or a similar degree program from an accredited university to be completed prior to hire.
  • Graduating with at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience, excluding internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing an undergraduate and/or graduate degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential or intention to pursue CFE.
  • Prior intern experience in compliance, auditing, accounting, or a related field.
  • Held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization during college.
