About the position

The Compliance Officer at United Consumer Financial Services is responsible for ensuring consumer finance compliance across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. This role involves developing compliance strategies, advising the business on compliance risks, and establishing compliance standards to maintain an effective Compliance Management System (CMS). The officer will oversee compliance documentation, training, and manage complaint investigations, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and update components of the Compliance Management System (CMS) to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage the regulatory environment to ensure ongoing compliance with existing and upcoming regulations.
  • Conduct effective risk assessments and develop compliance strategy changes during instances of noncompliance.
  • Develop and oversee CMS continuous monitoring activities and manage external compliance consultants.
  • Propose operational strategies to respond to regulatory changes and oversee their implementation.
  • Partner with stakeholders to successfully introduce new lines of business.
  • Develop, review and update all consumer, merchant, and business agreements, disclosures, and advertising documents for compliance.
  • Coordinate and evaluate the effectiveness of the compliance training program.
  • Assist with Fair Lending and Risk Management Committees' requirements and meetings.
  • Assist with complaint investigations and responses.

Requirements

  • Law Degree or CRCM required.
  • 3+ years of Legal and/or Compliance Responsibility in Financial Services.
  • Ability to communicate and manage compliance and risk matters remotely.
  • Strong decision- and strategy-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of Federal consumer credit laws and regulations, including TILA, ECOA, FCRA, EFTA, FDCPA, GLBA, TCPA, and applicable state laws.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to organize work and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and AS400.
