About the position

The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that employers in North Carolina comply with the insurance requirements of the Workers' Compensation Act. This role involves investigating the insurance coverage status of employers, reviewing data analytics, and making recommendations for civil penalty assessments against non-compliant employers. The Compliance Officer evaluates various documents and applies relevant laws and regulations to ensure compliance with statutory provisions.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the insurance coverage status of employers in North Carolina.
  • Review data analytics from various State information systems to identify potentially non-compliant employers.
  • Request additional information from identified employers and other State agencies to determine insurance status.
  • Make recommendations for civil penalty assessments against non-compliant employers.
  • Evaluate policy forms, addenda, payroll records, and corporate filings to determine compliance with statutory provisions.
  • Apply insurance law, department regulations, and appropriate procedures to ensure compliance with Chapter 97.
  • Prepare reports and meet with supervisors to review and evaluate work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Two years of significant compliance or investigative related experience.
  • Proficient computer skills and considerable experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with investigative practices, research methods, or compliance processes.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and analyzing information from different sources.
