About the position

The Compliance Officer at Intermountain Health is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive Compliance Program. This role involves ensuring adherence to healthcare regulations, conducting investigations, providing education, assessing risks, and monitoring compliance outcomes across care sites. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and ethics, while also managing compliance-related audits and corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Leads complex investigations and projects within assigned care sites or shared services areas.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships and communication channels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluates and identifies risks and supports corrective action plans across a broad portfolio of care sites, service lines, or geographies.
  • Leads or participates in implementation of regulatory requirements through projects and assignments.
  • Coordinates with Revenue Cycle on external government compliance audits and investigations, and if directed, coordinates with legal counsel at assigned care sites.
  • Identifies potential compliance vulnerabilities through various methods, including risk assessment, auditing, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Tracks compliance issue trends reported, identifies care site vulnerabilities, and provides input to the Compliance Work Plan.
  • Executes vision and multiple strategic priorities, linking day-to-day compliance activities to strategic objectives/priorities.
  • Supports the implementation of Intermountain's HIPAA Privacy Program, privacy audits and investigations, including Office for Civil Rights privacy complaints.
  • Delivers compliance program education to applicable audiences.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional-level experience in a regulatory, compliance or risk management role in the healthcare sector.
  • Expert level knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws and regulations related to healthcare billing, coding, reimbursement, contracting, and risk adjustment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex healthcare regulations in a healthcare system and assess and evaluate gaps.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated discretion to maintain confidential information, evaluate alternatives, and make effective decisions.
  • Experience implementing the eight elements of an effective compliance program.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism, with a commitment to Intermountain Health's mission, vision, values, and compliance framework.
