About the position

The Compliance Specialist at Takhar Transportation is responsible for ensuring that the company adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing the fuel industry. This role involves monitoring compliance with environmental laws, safety regulations, and industry standards, while working closely with operations teams, regulatory bodies, and legal advisors. The Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining the company's integrity and minimizing risks associated with non-compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations such as EPA, DOT, OSHA, BUSTR, and FMCSA regulations for the fuel wholesaling industry.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to environmental regulations for the storage and transport of fuel, including spill prevention, emissions control, and waste management.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety protocols and programs to comply with OSHA and NFPA standards.
  • Provide compliance training to staff and drivers on safety procedures, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain and update regulatory documentation, including permits, licenses, inspection records, and audit reports.
  • Conduct internal audits and inspections of facilities, vehicles, and equipment to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with changing regulations.
  • Investigate any compliance-related incidents, accidents, or violations and provide guidance on corrective actions and regulatory reporting as required.
  • Keep informed on changes to industry regulations and best practices, and proactively communicate these changes to management and relevant staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in compliance, safety, or regulatory affairs, preferably in the fuel wholesaling, petroleum, or logistics industry.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the fuel industry, including EPA, DOT, BUSTR, FMCSA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with fuel storage, transportation, and safety standards.
  • Experience in conducting internal audits, inspections, and preparing for regulatory audits.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and implement effective compliance strategies.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with internal teams, regulators, and vendors.
  • Proficiency with compliance management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
