About the position

The Compressor Design Engineer at Trane Technologies is a vital member of the Advanced Technologies Applied Compression team, responsible for developing and optimizing compression technology for HVAC and refrigeration applications. This role involves mechanical design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing integration of scroll compressors, ensuring they meet customer needs while contributing to sustainable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design of scroll compressors from concept selection to detailed drawing.
  • Design pressure vessels, castings, bearings, lubrication systems, and seals.
  • Specify, select, and apply motors in compressor applications.
  • Perform stress and deflection analysis, rotor dynamics, and vibration analysis.
  • Facilitate design reviews and conduct design FMEAs.
  • Develop and execute virtual engineering and physical testing validation plans.
  • Use virtual development tools to predict performance and optimize compressor design.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to provide compressor and motor selection recommendations.
  • Maintain awareness of new technology through supplier relationships and participation in technical societies.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including technical reports and specifications.
  • Collaborate with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years' work experience in product design and development.
  • Mechanical design and engineering skills with practical hands-on hardware experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical motors and rotating systems.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership of technical teams.
