About the position

The Comptroller - Accessibility Compliance Analyst position focuses on ensuring that the Comptroller's office produces accessibility-compliant websites, forms, and documents. As part of the Software Web Accessibility Group (SWAG), the analyst will work collaboratively to promote accessibility compliance and awareness throughout the agency, contributing to the overall mission of serving Texas citizens effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and resolve complex accessibility issues.
  • Assist with testing customer applications for accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.0 or above) for both newly developed applications and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Coordinate accessibility discussions with stakeholders, diagnosing and communicating accessibility issues.
  • Create documentation for identified issues, relating these issues to WCAG 2.0 or above guidelines, and present them to customers with suggested remediation actions.
  • Remediate Electronic Information Resources such as Excel, PDF, and PPT documents to meet accessibility standards.
  • Create accessible PDF forms.
  • Work with the agency EIR accessibility coordinator in developing training materials.
  • Serve as a co-presenter in training sessions focusing on creating electronic information resources across various applications.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two (2) years of recent experience working in an Accessibility related Analyst or Software Developer role.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF editing tools.
  • Experience with accessible PDF form design.
  • Experience with accessibility testing tools (e.g., SortSite, JAWS, NVDA, Wave).
  • Experience in writing and documenting information related to accessibility issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, or a related field that includes credit courses in computer programming in any language.
  • Knowledge of the W3C's WCAG 2.0 and above.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices in HTML 5 (Including the ARIA specification), CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Ability to use WCAG to diagnose and remediate accessibility problems to at least 'AA' level.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience in remediating PDFs, Excel, and PowerPoint files.
  • Experience in using screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, or any other).
