About the position

The Comptroller - Data Analyst IV position is responsible for producing complex reports for the Unclaimed Property Division, which administers the state's unclaimed property program. This role involves analyzing data, developing queries, and ensuring the accuracy of information provided to agency leadership and the public. The position emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to excellence within the Comptroller's Office, which serves as Texas' accountant and tax collector.

Responsibilities

  • Train on and become proficient in extracting information and producing reports from the unclaimed property system.
  • Oversee unclaimed property data studies and prepare reports that include study findings, recommendations, and instructions for proposed system changes.
  • Formulate logical descriptions of problems and devise plans for implementation.
  • Perform queries for management and the public.
  • Perform acceptance system tests and generate queries to assist users in determining results.
  • Serve as back-up division liaison with ITD program staff and Open Records Division staff.
  • Review public information requests and determine the information needed to respond to the request.
  • Confirm that automated system jobs run successfully and troubleshoot TINS and USAS file errors.
  • Work with Revenue Accounting staff to identify and correct payment problems related to automated interfaces.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of experience in developing queries, analyzing data, compilation and/or reporting work.
  • Two years of experience performing regression and/or user acceptance testing, developing system requirements or creating ad-hoc reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using unclaimed property system database and tables to produce reports or queries.
  • Experience writing queries using SQL and/or QMF.
  • Experience in system design, testing and data conversion.
